If you love to cook and use a Mac like myself you may have noticed something; the lack of recipe managers. Have no fear because I have found one for you. A Cook's Books is probably your best Mac solution for saving and creating recipes out there. I did find it a bit confusing on adding items that are not already in its food database. Instead of having a shortcut you go to a certain pane and click add, but you need all sorts of information about that item if you want a true nutritional value to show up. It would be a lot easier if there were a way to hunt for that food item on the internet and automatically import it from there. Also, you can add a picture of your creation, as I did above with my "Farmer's Potatoes", but it will not actually be a part of the recipe. The author of this program has informed me that he may add that feature in a future revision, but not any time soon. If you are like me and want to use a program like this to say, create your own cookbook, pictures are a must.
Once you are done with your recipe you can save it currently in three formats: Text, RTF, and Word doc. The author has told me he is adding PDF to the list. The output looks amazing, but again would look better if the picture assigned to it was part of the output. If you'd like to see my "Farmer's Potatoes" recipe click here.
All in all this is a very unique and useful program, but because of a few minor things, and because it's still in beta, I can only give it 5 apples. Don't let this deter you though, if you are a true foodie you need to get this.
