VLC, formerly known as VideoLAN Client (or as the fans call it: View Listen & Connect), is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, AVI, H263, etc.) as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. It can also be used as a server to stream in unicast or multicast in IPv4 or IPv6 on a high-bandwidth network.
There are VERY few media formats that VLC won't handle. I have used VLC for about two years now and it has played 99.9% of them with little or no problem. Using VLC is as simple as using Quicktime. There is a floating "remote" which allows you to play, pause, and skip. You can also add video files to the playlist area so that you don't have to double-click each file you want to view. Instead, once one file is done the next one will automatically start. This is great for huge vids that were cut into segments.
One thing that it's missing though is the ability to play VIDEO_TS folders (like in MPlayer). Hopefully that will be added to its features in the near future.
If you love video and want a true user experience download VLC. It's Quicktime on sterroids! And most of all... it's FREE!
