What can I say about iPulse except that it's simply amazing? As you can see from it's preferences dialog to the right, there are many options in the programs jacket. What is a jacket? It is the "skin" that iPulse uses to give you a custom look.
From this pref pane you can set up your jacket to display many things that you'd like to know the information of on the fly. From the date and time to memory usage to diskspace used. You can also alter the color and opacity of each of the options regions.
I tried using iPulse from within the dock which I would have found less distracting, but for some reason it only worked properly as a floating window. I don't know if it's because of the version of my OS or if something isn't quite right with my computer itself as I've had problems with a few other applications that no one else has.
Another thing I found just a little disappointing was that when creating your own jacket for iPulse it has to be circular or a facsimily of a circle to look right. Yes, you can create your own jackets. And the people at the IconFactory have a downloadable starter kit for this. It would be nice if you could not only create a jacket but specify the regions manually. Sort of like using an advanced Kaleidoscope 2. In the interim, though, I'll just try to modify my idea for a jacket to their specs. Not really a bad thing, but it would be nice if I could put what is in my head onto the screen.
In closing, if you are a true MacGeek and want to know what your computer is doing at all times. You must grab this little utility. I've used it to find out what was causing me to lag on the internet and some other useful things. So, it is a must have. And since it comes from the good people at the IconFactory you know it's solid and reliable as well.
