One thing that is irritating for us Mac gamers is the lack of utilites out there for the games we play. Especially those that were designed especially to be designer friendly. One of those games is the Sims by Maxis and ported to the Mac by Asyr. There are very few "helper" utilites out there for our use when it comes to this game, but now there is a new kid on the block.
SiModifier is great for "hacking" your Sims. Want to change career paths? No problem. Want more Simoleans? Easy! Want to increase your skills or interests? Got you covered. Want your Sim to be a pet or a ghost? Hey you can do that too. I don't know why you'd want to do that but you can.
SiModifier is very easy. You need to use this program when the Sims is not running, otherwise you could lose your data. Also you can only modify those Sims that you have played. This is an easier alternative than using the built in cheats within the game itself. I'd recommend it to anyone who plays The Sims. Now you may be wondering why I only gave it 4 apples instead of 5 or 5+. I still feel that other options could be available in the Behavior Lab. Why just a ghoul or pet? Why not put your Sims in a zombie state? Or maybe even turn your Sim into an NPC?
If you play the Sims then you should go and grab this. It's easy and most of all it's light on the wallet.
UPDATE: SiModifier now has garnered our highest honors. With the release of SuperStar this program can now even alter your star rating. That's right! No more working like a dog to become a top star in your own game. Now, if they could just add a feature for your Sims to automatically get all the awards that would be more than nifty.
UPDATE #2: This little utility for The Sims just keeps getting better and better! If I could rate it any higher I would. The newest version allows your child sims to grow up. That's right, more realism! And it works damn good too. When you use the "Grow Up" feature the program will randomly generate a skin and allows you to pick the head. Pretty neat. Now if they could add a feature for you SuperStar Sims to gain awards as described in my last update and to "Grow Old" that would be the creme de la creme.
UPDATE #3: This app is now compatable with both Panther and Makin' Magic! Works great too. Now if only other developers would update their programs as fast and efficiently as Lake Group. Because of this they are upgraded to the Golden Apple Award.
UPDATE #4: This update gives you the ability to alter your whole neighborhood by applying a "theme". It's pretty cool. Some of the themes are Hood and Stepford among others.
